Three scammers were sued by Google for allegedly giving a phoney download of their Bard AI chatbot, which had malware that could be used to get login credentials for social media accounts owned by small businesses.
The three defendants, identified as “DOES 1-3” in the web giant’s case [PDF], which was filed on Monday in a federal district court in San Jose, are accused of launching social media pages and postings that contained links to download Google’s AI chatbot Bard.
However, according to court filings, the download really contained spyware meant to steal people’ internet login credentials rather than Bard. The miscreants, according to Google’s legal team, targeted advertiser accounts and small companies in an attempt to obtain their financial information.
