The United States’ immigration police have retaliated against an official investigation that found their inadequate mobile device security might have exposed confidential government data to foreign hackers.
The US Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General audited the agency’s IT rules and the technology used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) between April 27 and August 17.
The inspector general harshly criticised the Federal government’s device management procedures in a write-up dated October 30. The report highlighted “urgent issues” with ICE-managed handhelds, such as worries about devices running potentially foreign adversary-hacked software. Consider software that has been built in China or Russia or is connected to them, which may be modified or compromised to spy on the United States.
