Using Intel’s 4th generation Xeon Scalable processor with vRAN boost on a virtualized RAN from Samsung, Verizon claimed to have demonstrated a “significant boost to network performance” on its commercial network, along with “meaningful power efficiency gains” and the ability to support higher throughputs.
The trial was held in Dallas, Texas, on Verizon’s business network. Wider C-Band spectrum bandwidths are supported by Intel’s new vRAN processor, which Verizon is utilising to expand its capacity now that it has access to the whole C-Band airwaves that it bought at auction.
