According to Canalys, 293.4 million smartphones were delivered globally in the third quarter, a 1% decrease from the same period the previous year. Samsung delivered 57.4 million smartphones during the quarter, maintaining its position as the world’s top smartphone manufacturer even if yearly shipments fell by 6%. As a result, the business gained a dominant 20% of the market.
With the quarter-end introduction of the new iPhone 15 series, Apple shipped 50 million iPhones, bringing it one step closer to its South Korean competitor. Apple got within 3 percentage points of Samsung with a 17% share of the worldwide smartphone market despite shipping 6% fewer phones than it did in the same period last year.
